1. How many days does the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra take?

The duration of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra depends on the route you choose:

  • 14 days: Overland from Kathmandu – Kyrung – Kailash – Kathmandu
  • 10 days: Helicopter via Lucknow – Nepalganj – Kailash – Lucknow
  • 11 days: Helicopter via Kathmandu – Kailash
  • 15 days: Via Lhasa from Kathmandu
  • 10 days: Via Lhasa – Ali – Kathmandu (Fly in/out)

2. What are the routes for Kailash Yatra?

There are several routes for the Kailash Yatra, depending on your preferred mode of travel:

  • 13 days Kailash Yatra by Luxury Bus: Kathmandu to Kodari (Nepal-Tibet border) by tourist bus. Then, luxury buses in Tibet from Kyirong, Saga, Mansarovar, Darchen, and Parikrama.
  • 10 days Kailash Yatra by Helicopter: Kathmandu – Nepalganj – Simikot – Hilsa (by helicopter) – Taklakot – Mansarovar – Darchen – Parikrama – Return.
  • 15 days Kailash Yatra via Lhasa: Kathmandu to Lhasa, Sigatse, Saga, Mansarovar, Darchen, and Parikrama.

3. How long is the Kailash Parikrama and how many days do I need?

The Kailash Parikrama (circumambulation) is approximately 52 km and usually takes 3 days (2 nights of camping in Dirapuk and Zuthulpuk).

4. What is the best time to visit Kailash Mansarovar?

The best time to visit Kailash Mansarovar is between April and September, when the weather is relatively mild and suitable for trekking.

5. What is a Land Cruiser and why is it used for Kailash Yatra?

A Land Cruiser is a 4-wheel-drive vehicle used for traveling on rugged roads. During the Yatra, we use it to transport pilgrims from Kathmandu to Kailash. Each Land Cruiser accommodates 4 pilgrims, 1 driver, and 1 Sherpa.

6. Can I hire a Yak or Horse for the Kailash Parikrama?

Yes, if you do not wish to trek, you can hire a horse/pony for the Kailash Parikrama. This service is available for 3 days and costs extra. Namaste Holidays can assist you in arranging this.

7. Are there any hidden charges during the Kailash Yatra?

Some additional costs may arise during the Yatra, such as:

  • Yak and Yak Man charges
  • Rescue or evacuation costs
  • Travel insurance
  • Drinks, laundry, and phone charges
  • Accommodation and food costs in Darchen (if not doing the parikrama)

8. How much money should I carry for the trip?

In Kathmandu, you can carry USD or Indian Rupees. For Tibet, you will need Chinese Yuan (CNY). We recommend carrying 2000-2500 Yuan for 11 days in Tibet, which you can use for emergency expenses, hiring horses, or other unforeseen costs.

9. What type of accommodation is provided during the Yatra?

You will stay in 3-4 star hotels in Kathmandu, while guest houses in Tibet are arranged. During the Kailash Parikrama, camping accommodations will be provided.

10. What is the cancellation policy?

Our cancellation policy is as follows:

  • 30 days before departure: INR 15,000 cancellation charge
  • 15 days before departure: INR 25,000 cancellation charge
  • 7 days before departure: No refund

11. What does Namaste Holidays provide during the Yatra?

We provide essential camping equipment, including:

  • Sleeping bags and down jackets
  • Oxygen backup and Gaymo bags for emergency use
  • Camping tents and necessary supplies

12. Do I need a medical report to go on the Kailash Yatra?

No official medical report is required, but we recommend that every pilgrim consult their doctor before traveling, especially regarding altitude sickness.

13. What official documents are needed for the Yatra?

You will need:

  • A valid passport (with 4 passport-size photos)
  • Medical Insurance (optional but recommended)

14. Is it better to start the Yatra on a full moon day?

Starting the Yatra on a full moon is not mandatory but preferred by some pilgrims for its spiritual significance.

15. Can I bring children with me on the Kailash Yatra?

Yes, children aged 6-10 years can join the Yatra, but at your own risk. Ensure they are physically fit for the journey.

16. What precautions should I take for children on the Yatra?

You should take the same precautions for children as you would for yourself, such as proper clothing, hydration, and medical care.

17. Will one oxygen cylinder be enough for the whole group?

We provide oxygen cylinders in case of emergency. Most pilgrims do not need oxygen but may prefer to carry a small portable oxygen cylinder for peace of mind.

18. Is the Yatra cost the same for children?

Yes, the Yatra cost is the same for children, regardless of age.

19. Will there be a cook with us during the trip?

Yes, cooks will travel with you, providing vegetarian meals throughout the journey. They will carry necessary cooking equipment.

20. Can I choose my food menu during the Yatra?

Yes, you can discuss your preferences with the cook, and if feasible, they will prepare your preferred dishes.

21. Is the VISA cost included in the tour price?

Yes, the Tibet Visa cost is included in the total tour price. However, Nepal Visa is not included for foreign nationals (Indian passport holders don’t need it).

22. Can I get helpers for my children and luggage?

Yes, you can hire helpers/porters for your children and luggage during the trek, usually at a cost of Yuan 250 per day.

23. What happens if there is a vehicle breakdown?

In case of a vehicle breakdown, we will send a replacement Land Cruiser immediately.

24. Are there landslides on the route?

Landslides are rare but can occur due to weather conditions. Our team monitors the situation and will adjust the schedule if needed.

25. Are good sanitation facilities available during camping?

Yes, toilet tents will be set up during the camping days to ensure sanitation.

26. How about drinking water during the Yatra?

We provide pure natural mineral water or water purification tablets to ensure safe drinking water during the journey.

27. Can I buy toiletries and other items during the Yatra?

You can purchase most personal items in Kathmandu before departure. Our team will also assist you in finding any specific items.

28. Can I bring a camera? Can I charge it during the Yatra?

Yes, you can bring both cameras and video equipment. Charging facilities are available in most places, but not during the 3-day Parikrama. It’s advisable to bring extra batteries.

29. Can I use my phone during the Yatra?

You can buy a Chinese SIM card at Zangmu/Nyalam. Alternatively, you can use your own phone with international roaming.

30. Do I need to bring my own Pundit for rituals?

Yes, you must bring your own Pundit for the necessary rituals at Kailash and Mansarovar.

31. When should I book the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra?

It’s recommended to book at least 45 days in advance to ensure all permits and arrangements are in place.

32. How can I make an advance payment?

You can pay in the following ways:

  • Online via credit card
  • Bank transfer
  • Demand draft

33. What should I do if I am not fit for Parikrama?

If you're not physically able to do the Parikrama, you can stay in Darchen for 3 days at an additional cost.

34. What medical tests are required for this trip?

We recommend a TMT test (not compulsory) to check your heart health before the journey.

35. What items should I carry for the trip?

Carry warm clothes, a water bottle, sunblock, medications, Altitude sickness tablets (Diamox), and snacks like dry fruits, nuts, and biscuits.

36. Is a COVID vaccination card required?

Yes, a COVID vaccination card or a PCR test report may be required, depending on travel regulations at the time.

37. Are there any age restrictions?

Pilgrims over 70 years of age must submit a medical report from an Indian government hospital. Additionally, a USD 1000 deposit is required for emergency situations. A health check-up will be conducted by Chinese doctors before the Parikrama.
