Overview
The Mt. Annapuran base Camp trek is one of the most famous trekking trials in the world because of its variation from dense forest to Tibetan plateau. The most interesting part of this trek is encountering different ethnic groups like Gurungs, Magars, and Thakalis.
Trekkers passing through the 5416 m Throng-La pass can have the perfect views of 3 beautiful mountains named Annapurna, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, Manasalu, and Hidden Valley of Kali Gandaki River (Holy River). In the circuit route, there is the famous Hindu religious site Muktinath temple, where you see 108 taps in the form of cow heads also. The last point of the Annapurna circuit is Jomsom Bazar, which is dominated by Thakali ethnic groups.
Annapurna Round Trek, highly praised and popularly known as the Annapurna Circuit Trek, is an iconic trek that unfolds the beauty of the Annapurna region, a combination of dramatic mountain landscapes and varying ecology together with rich culture. This great teahouse trekking starts from Kathmandu, the city of temples with paved streets.
From Kathmandu, it goes to Syange, the most beautiful village and the entrance to your trek. The route follows the Marsyangdi River, leading you through traditional villages such as Jagat and Bagarchap, where cultural diversity is evident in the Annapurna region. Continuing deeper into the heart of the Annapurna Conservation Area, the landscapes transition from lush valleys to rugged mountain terrain. Chame is reached and the trek goes through dense forests, with increasingly impressive views of the towering Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges.
On the way to Pisang and then Manang, trekkers are treated to sweeping vistas of the surrounding peaks, including Machapuchhre and Annapurna II. Manang is a cultural hub where you’ll encounter local Gurung and Manangi people, offering a glimpse into the region’s unique traditions. A well-deserved rest day in Manang allows for acclimatization, ensuring a safe and enjoyable ascent toward higher altitudes.
From Manang, the trek goes to the quiet village of Yak Kharka and on to Thorong Phedi, the last stop before tackling the Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters. Thorang La Pass is one of the highest points in the world for trekking, offering a panoramic view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. After descending from Thorong La, you’ll reach Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, where thousands of devotees come to worship at the temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
It goes down to Jomsom, a pulsating town in the Kali Gandaki Valley, and further to Pokhara, a quiet lakeside city, highly appreciated by visitors seeking rest but still enjoying the beauty of the Himalayas. The final destination takes one back to Kathmandu, where a recollection of unforgettable moments and the splendor of nature witnessed during the trek becomes a necessity.
In your travels, you will encounter diverse species of flora and fauna: rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, some wildlife, such as the Himalayan monal and the musk deer. The trek presents breathtaking scenery in front of you-the world's 10th highest peak, Annapurna I at 8,091 meters; Mt. Dhaulagiri; Machapuchhre; Manaslu-all forming an impressive arc to the west; between them is the Kali Gandaki Gorge-the world's deepest river gorge.
The Annapurna Circuit Trek is not a physical challenge but a spiritual journey, passing by Buddhist monasteries, sacred temples, and ancient villages. It is an adventurous, cultural, and natural combined trek in one of the most beautiful parts of Nepal, hence an experience one would always remember.
