Overview
Go on the adventure of a lifetime and cross the legendary Cho-La Pass to stand at the base of mighty Everest, an experience that will always be remembered.
Like the Everest Base Camp trek, the Cho-La Pass Trek is one of Nepal's most thrilling and scenic trekking routes, combining the grandeur of Everest with the beauty and challenges of crossing Cho-La Pass. This trek offers breathtaking views of towering peaks like Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu, as well as stunning Gokyo Lakes and the famous Gokyo Ri. The Cho-La Pass, at 5,320 meters, connects Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Valley and is a highlight for adventurous trekkers.
The journey begins with a scenic flight to Lukla, from where you’ll trek through Sherpa villages, UNESCO-listed Sagarmatha National Park, and lush forests before reaching the high-altitude Gokyo Valley. Along the way, you'll be captivated by the tranquil Gokyo Lakes, which reflect the surrounding peaks in their shimmering waters.
The highlight here is the ascent of Gokyo Ri, where you'll be treated to a panoramic view of some of the world’s highest mountains, including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu, along with a stunning vista of the Nagozumba Glacier, the longest glacier in the Khumbu region.
After exploring Gokyo Valley, the trek takes you to the remote Cho-La Pass, a rarely-attempted high-altitude crossing that provides trekkers with a thrilling challenge. Traversing the rugged, icy terrain, you’ll be rewarded with dramatic views of surrounding snowfields and craggy peaks.
Once across the pass, you’ll descend into a secluded valley before making your way to Everest Base Camp, passing through famous sites like Kalapathar, renowned for its close-up views of Everest, and Tengboche, home to an ornately decorated Tibetan monastery.
This trek is not only a physical challenge but also a cultural journey, with opportunities to visit Sherpa villages like Pangboche and Kumjung, where you can explore traditional lifestyles and visit historical sites like the Hillary School and Hospital. The route also offers a chance to immerse yourself in the spiritual richness of the region, including visits to monasteries and prayer walls.
With Namaste Holidays, you’re guaranteed a safe and exciting adventure, supported by our high-level security protocols and expert guides. Our customizable 22-day trek allows you to explore the Everest region at your own pace, with options to extend or customize the journey by adding other trekking programs, such as the Short Everest Trek or Everest High Pass Trek.
