Everest & Gokyo Renjo la pass

The Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trekking is one kind of unique experience on the trails that are besides the beaten routes in the Everest region. Less crowded and exotic, these routes are considered as counterparts of the Everest Base Camp trek, which are very well liked among the visitors. The journey starts with a scenic flight to Lukla, followed by a trek to Phakding. After having gone through acclimatization in Namche Bazaar, the journey starts onwards to Dole via Machhermo and further reaches Gokyo village for the exploration of its lakes and hiking up to Gokyo Ri for an unforgettable sunrise view. From Gokyo, after an extra day for acclimatization, you cross the Renjo La Pass, go down to Lungden, and further up to Thame to visit a monastery before going back to Namche and flying to Kathmandu.

Gokyo Ri provides stunning views of the world’s highest freshwater lake system, the Gokyo Lakes and a panorama of Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu. Renjo La Pass is one of three high passes of the Everest region, offering a challenging yet rewarding trek at 5,360 meters amidst rugged terrain, lush forests, and remote Sherpa villages.

The Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek is ideal for those not willing to get into the hustle and bustle of Everest Base Camp. Though a bit less touristy, it boasts equally magnificent landscapes. This trekking route goes through Sagarmatha National Park, home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including rhododendron and juniper forests; the route also allows for experiences with Sherpa culture.

Physically and acclimatization-wise, the trek to high altitudes calls for both. The spring period, stretching from March to May, is the best, and similarly, the autumn, from September to November, is quite good with clear weather and at their best skies. During the monsoon season, starting from June to August, it's not recommended because of slippery trails and obscured views. Winter is likewise not suitable since it is really cold.
