Dolpo Trek offers beauty along with remoteness. The Upper Dolpo trek can be considered one of the most breathtaking and challenging trails in the midwestern part of Nepal. So, this trek will be ideal for those who can manage to spend more time in Nepal and want to explore the traditional lifestyle of Nepal with a stunning Himalayan environment in a remote region of the planet.
The Upper Dolpo trek was opened for foreigners in 1989. Because it is far away and out of reach due to a lack of connections and transportation, the Dolpo region has remained unknown to most of us. That's why it is a recently opened trek. Despite its unavailability, Upper Dolpo offers amazing natural and cultural beauty.
The 26-day Upper Dolpo Trek trekking itinerary takes you walking through beautiful valleys, multiethnic settlements, and the magnificent Himalayas; similarly, lush forests of rhododendrons, pines, oaks, among others, give an experience of the magnificence of far-flung western Nepal.
Some of the rewards of this 26-day trek are observation of Tibetan Buddhist culture, Shey Phoksundo Lake, rare wildlife like snow leopards, and epochs of old monasteries-for instance, the 800-year-old Shey Monastery. This 26-day Upper Dolpo Trek Itinerary further allows you to explore the largest park in Nepal, Shey Phoksundo National Park. The main attraction on this journey into Dolpo is Shey Gompa, where centuries-old Buddhist and Bonpo traditions-with shamanistic influences-are still enacted.
